The presented report projects a year-on-year increase of 175.0% for the average total family income (TFI) during the semester. By simulating the microdata from the Permanent Household Survey (PHS) for the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2024, the poverty rate was estimated at 49.0% for the period from May to October, with a 95% confidence interval between 47.5% and 50.5%. In relation to the Basic Food Basket (BFB), a variation of 2.0% was projected in the last semester compared to the previous period, while the sum of the TFI for low-income strata had a projected increase of 5.9%. On the other hand, the variation of the Total Basic Basket (TBB) concerning the TFI was 3.1% and 4.5%, respectively. The reduction in poverty is attributed to the decrease in inflation, which reduced the rate of increase of the baskets used to measure the rate, and to the increase in income, surpassing the variations of those components. According to the report, this situation induced a decrease in the measurement of indigence and poverty during the May-October semester compared to the previous period. Compared to the same semester of the previous year, the poverty rate rose from 40.6% to 49.0%. Regarding the baskets that mark the threshold of poverty and indigence, an increase from 225% to 233% was observed, contrasting with the increase in the TFI, which was 176%. The study conducted by the Torcuato Di Tella University indicated that the poverty rate was reduced to 49% during the May-October period after reaching a peak of 52.9% in the first semester of the year. According to the analysis, around 49% of people live in poor urban households, which represents approximately 14.4 million people out of an urban population of 29.3 million. For Greater Buenos Aires (GBA), the average Total Basic Basket (TBB) was estimated at $297,533 per adult equivalent for the semester, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 234.6%.
